About our Program

Welcome to music at DHS and CMS!  I am a strong believer in music education and music literacy and work to provide our music students with a quality music education always working toward excellence.

While continuing to build our programs we offer the following courses to students.

Courses offered at CMS

Band

Choir

Courses offered at DHS

Band - CP

Choir - CP

Beginning Guitar

We also support student participation in musical activities outside of school.  Our students are encouraged to participate in local CMEA (California Music Educators Association) honor bands, choirs, as well as the causeway youth band festival hosted by the University of California, Davis and Sacramento State University music departments. These positive and memorable learning experiences provide students with an opportunity to work with other music educators at the secondary and University levels, as well as young musicians from all over the greater Sacramento area.

About Mr. Veirs

Music has been a big part of my life and I feel fortunate to be able to share it with so many young musicians here at CMS and DHS.  It is my goal to provide our students with a quality musical experience in which they can develop and realize their talents.  Music offers students a positive, creative outlet that they can carry with them for a lifetime.

I received my B.A. in music from the University of California, Davis and teaching credential in music education from California State University, Sacramento.

As with many of our students I began my musical journey in elementary school (4th grade) when I started playing the trumpet, an instrument that I have enjoyed playing for over 29 years.  I have performed with a variety of ensembles both community and collegiate based, from concert band, orchestra, small ensembles, jazz band, marching band, and as a pit musician.  During my time at UC Davis I studied trumpet with Scott Macomber and served as principal trumpet for the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra during the 2009 season, for the UC Davis productions of Man of La Mancha and Oklahoma, and UCD student production of Cabaret.  I continue to perform with community ensembles and consider myself lucky enough to do so alongside my wife who plays the clarinet.

Aside from music I love to fish, especially for trout!  I have spent many hours fishing some of my favorite lakes in the Sierras, literally sometimes from sunrise to sunset.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.  As I travel between multiple schools email is the best way to reach me.  rveirs@rdusd.org
